My latest book is The One Who Swam With The Fishes.

"A mesmerizing account of the well-known story of Matsyagandha ... and her transformation from fisherman’s daughter to Satyavati, Santanu’s royal consort and the Mother/Progenitor of the Kuru clan." - Hindustan Times

"Themes of fate, morality and power overlay a subtle and essential feminism to make this lyrical book a must-read. If this is Madhavan’s first book in the Girls from the Mahabharata series, there is much to look forward to in the months to come." - Open Magazine

"A gleeful dollop of Blytonian magic ... Reddy Madhavan is also able to tackle some fairly sensitive subjects such as identity, the love of and karmic ties with parents, adoption, the first sexual encounter, loneliness, and my favourite, feminist rage." - Scroll

What I'm Reading

I've been wanting to read Alison Lurie's Pulitzer Prize winning book Foreign Affairs for some time and I've been wanting more books for my Berlin flat so when I stumbled (literally) upon it in a higgeldy piggeldy second hand bookstore yesterday I immediately bought it. A quiet book about two American academics and their separate summers in London, it goes deep beyond just "this is the difference between the Americans and the English" and talks about human character in the way that I like best. You should definitely read it if you too like that sort of thing. In other news, the best books edition of my newsletter goes out tomorrow morning to subscribers so get on that to see my top eleven reads of the year!
