My latest book is The One Who Swam With The Fishes.

"A mesmerizing account of the well-known story of Matsyagandha ... and her transformation from fisherman’s daughter to Satyavati, Santanu’s royal consort and the Mother/Progenitor of the Kuru clan." - Hindustan Times

"Themes of fate, morality and power overlay a subtle and essential feminism to make this lyrical book a must-read. If this is Madhavan’s first book in the Girls from the Mahabharata series, there is much to look forward to in the months to come." - Open Magazine

"A gleeful dollop of Blytonian magic ... Reddy Madhavan is also able to tackle some fairly sensitive subjects such as identity, the love of and karmic ties with parents, adoption, the first sexual encounter, loneliness, and my favourite, feminist rage." - Scroll

Trying to get a few thoughts about dogs into coherent order after reading this incredible book: the life of Elizabeth Barrett's spaniel, Flush. People think you can only be a cat person or a dog person, but "I am large, I contain multitudes." Just as I love several people and several cities and several books so do I love dogs, I HAD dogs most of my life until I lived alone and then I needed cats. Spaniels, how we loved spaniels, maybe it was because my mother recommended this book to me since she loved it herself, my first dog was a purebred Cocker, my last dog was half Cocker half mongrel. Temperamental creature, she bit all new people and loved us madly. Enid Blyton was full of spaniels as well: Scamper and the rest, and Deborah Crombie's Gemma James is a fan. Spaniels maybe inspire more literature than the rest, they are among the most beautiful dogs in the world and one of the most popular, at a time Delhi was full of spaniels: mostly Cockers but also some Springers, but now, like the Pomeranian they have fallen out of fashion. One day, when we're old and moving around less, maybe I'll have a dog again, maybe I'll have three and one of them will be a Cocker Spaniel and I will call him Flush. #bookstagram #mrmbookclub#nowreading #158in2018
